Title: Establishes Exemptions From Public Document Requests

Vote to amend and pass a bill that establishes exceptions for public record requests involving social media violations.

Highlights:

  • Establishes that all information made confidential may be disclosed to the Department of Legal Affairs under the following conditions (Sec. 1): 

    • For print, publication, or broadcast if it will help locate or identify a person the department believes to be a victim of improper use of customer records; or 

    • In the furthering of the department's official duties and responsibilities.

  • Requires that the following information remains confidential from the Department of Legal Affairs (Sec.1): 

    • Personal identifying information; 

    • A computer forensic report;

    • Information that would reveal a weakness in data security; or

    • A disclosure on the proprietary information of a social media platform.

  • Establishes the authorization date as the effective date of HB 1 or when similar legislation takes effect (Sec. 3).
