Vote to pass a bill that authorizes a patients choice of blood donation source in the state of Iowa.

Highlights:

• Requires a blood bank that facilitates an autologous or directed blood donation shall comply with an individual's request for a blood type source (Sec. 1).

• Defines “autologous blood donation” as a blood donation made by an individual for the individual’s use (Sec. 1).

• Defines “directed blood donation” as the donation of blood or blood components for transfusion into a specified individual (Sec. 1).

• Requires a hospital that facilitates a blood donation to comply with an individual’s request for a blood type transfusion, or an autologous or directed blood donation, unless the hospital determines the donation would result in an imminent risk to the individual’s life (Sec. 2).

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the governor (Sec. 3).
