Title: Prohibits Open Carrying Semi-Automatic Firearms in Public

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits open carrying semi-automatic firearms in a public place in the state of Virginia.

Highlights:

  • Establishes that it is unlawful to assault fire-arms on any public street, road, alley, sidewalk, or public park (Sec. 1). 

  • Prohibits the public use of the following (Sec. 1): 

    • A semi-automatic center-fire rifle that expels single or multiple projectiles through the explosion of combustible materials;

    • A semi-automatic center-fire rifle which has a detachable magazine; 

    • A semi-automatic shotgun that expels single or multiple projectiles through the explosion of combustible materials; or 

    • A shotgun that can hold more than seven rounds 

  • Establishes that these provisions shall not apply to law enforcement officers or military personnels, in the field of duty (Sec. 1). 

  • Authorizes the use of assault fire-arms in lawful hunting or lawful recreational shooting, unless it has been rendered inoperable (Sec. 1). 

  • Requires a minimum fiscal impact of $50,000 to individuals charged with the public possession of the aforementioned assault fire-arms (Sec. 1).
