Vote to pass a bill that increases student discipline policies for state educators in West Virginia.

Highlights:

• Authorizes teachers in grades pre-k through grade 5 to remove a student from their classroom for repeatedly interfering with classroom instruction and other student’s ability to learn (Article 5 Sec. 1).

• Prohibits a student from being returned to the classroom without the teacher’s consent, unless the discipline commitee, established by each individual school determines that such placement is best or the only alternative available (Article 5 Sec. 1).

• Requires that no later than 3 days after a student is removed from class the student discipline team in each school schedule a conference between the teacher and parent or legal guardian of the student (Article 5 Sec. 1).
