Vote to pass a bill that establishes the West Virginia Guardian Program to allow veterans and some retired law enforcement officers to provide armed security in public schools.
Establishes the West Virginia Guardian Program to allow veterans and some retired law enforcement officers to provide armed security in public schools (Article 5, Sec. 18).
Authorizes county boards of education in the state of West Virginia to to contract with honorably discharged veterans or former state troopers, sheriff’s deputies, or federal law enforcement officers to provide public safety and security on public school grounds and buildings (Article 5, Sec. 18).
Specifies that the aforementioned security shall not have arresting authority but shall be authorized to conceal carry weapons on school property (Article 5, Sec. 18).
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall become effective immediately upon passage and approval by the governor (Article 5, Sec. 18).
