a vote to pass a bill to increase the compensatory awards for individuals for receiving punitive damages for the Maine Human Rights Act

Highlights:

• Increases the amount of compensatory awards given by the Main human Rights act in the case of pecuniary loss, emotional pain, suffering, inconvenience and other losses by the following amounts based on size of the company (Sec. 1):  

• Fewer than 101 are increased to $100,000; 

• More than 101 and fewer than 201 are increased to $300,000; 

• More than 201 fewer than 501 are increased to $500,000; and 

• More than 500 are increased to $1,000, 000.
