Title: Establishes the Maine Paid Family and Medical Leave Program
Vote to pass a bill that establishes the Maine paid family leave program to provide up to 12 weeks of paid leave for all state employees.
Establishes the Maine Paid Family and medical leave benefits program by 2026(Sec. 1).
Defines terms related to the Maine Paid Family and Medical Leave Benefits program (Sec. 1).
Requires that the Main Paid Family and Medical Leave Benefits Program cover the following situations (Sec. 1):
Childbirth;
Serious health conditions;
Attendance to qualifying exigency; and
To care for a family member who is a covered service member.
Specifies that a person eligible to receive extended leave is a person whose serious health condition makes it impossible for them to meet the base requirements of the job position (Sec. 1).
Specifies that an individual is not eligible for more than 12 weeks of family leave in an application year (Sec. 1).
Specifies intermittent leave requirements (Sec. 1).
Specifies the amount of the weekly benefits (Sec. 1).
Specifies that family leave does not take any time away from the accrual of sick time, vacation time, or bonuses (Sec. 1).
Specifies that this does not apply to self employed individuals (Sec. 1).
Specifies that this act does not contradict any collective bargaining agreement that provides for leave times that are greater than the ones authorized by the act (Sec. 1).
Specifies that medical leave benefits are not to be paid out during the first 7 days of the year (Sec. 1).
Specifies that the medical leave benefits shall be at least 90% of an employees wage and at the most 120% of an employees wage (Sec. 1).
Specifies that an administrator shall establish reasonable procedures for form collection and submitting supporting documentation (Sec. 1).
Specifies what documentation is needed to qualify and how benefits are to be paid out to an employee (Sec. 1).
