Title: Requires Public Schools Adopt Policies On Expectations Related to Staff Member Professional Duties

Vote to pass a bill that requires each public school adopt a policy regarding expectations of personnel professional duties and performance.

Highlights:

  • Requires the Board of Education to adopt a policy that does the following (Sec. 3): 

    • Prevent policies that require affirmation of a specific belief or ideology by both students and faculty; 

    • Prevent requirements of a specific beliefs, affiliation, ideals or principles being a part of employee evaluations; and

    • Prevent requirements of a specific belief, affiliation, ideal, or principles for student academic evaluations.

  • Specifies that nothing in this act will prohibit the following (Sec. 3): 

    • Full implementation of state anti-discrimination laws; 

    • Educators academic freedom; 

    • Educators ability to write and research about specific topics related to political movements or ideologies; and

    • Consideration of scholarships. 

  • Requires each school district to make these policies well known (Sec. 3). 

  • Specifies that nothing in this section shall require any protected legal communications (Sec. 3).
