Title: Amends Legal Classification and Penalties for Crimes Related to Fentanyl Distribution
Vote to pass a bill that amends the legal classification and penalties for crimes related to fentanyl distribution.
Amends the legal classification and penalties for crimes related to fentanyl distribution (Sec. 1).
Increases criminal penalties for deaths due to drug distribution of a controlled substance to a Class C felony with a jail sentence of between 18-24 years and a fine of between $500,000-$1 million depending on amount and level of severity (Sec. 1).
Repeals previous language that required prosecutors prove a transaction took place to now just proving that the drugs were delivered (Sec. 1).
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect December 1, 2023 (Sec. 6).
