Vote to pass a bill that prohibits Nevada counties, cities, and unincorporated towns from sounding sirens, bells, or alarms commonly known as "sundown sirens," which warned Indigenous and people of color to leave city limits.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits Nevada counties, cities, and unincorporated towns from sounding sirens, bells, or alarms commonly known as "sundown sirens," for any purpose other than the following, including (Sec. 1):

    • Alerting individuals to an emergency;

    • Testing the siren, bell, or alarm at reasonable time intervals not more than once every 6 months; and

    • Celebrating or recognizing a legal holiday.

  • Authorizes the state attorney general to bring a civil action to collect a monetary penalty of up to $50,000 from a county, city, or unincorporated town who has been found to of been in violation of the provisions of this bill (Sec. 2).

  • Prohibits a county, city, or unincorporated town from taking any adverse employment action against an employee who reports a violation to the state attorney general (Sec. 3).

  • Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the governor (Sec. 4).
