Vote to pass a bill authorizes Native American tribes and the state to form individual regulations and taxes for cannabis.

Highlights:

• Requires the Department of Treasury and cannabis regulatory agency to deposit all funds deriving from regulation fees (Sec. 14) 

• Requires funds for internal activities of the cannabis regulatory agency to come from the general fund (Sec. 14) 

• Requires the cannabis regulatory agency to use funds to conduct development and research projects as well as implement, administrate, and enforce the act (Sec. 14). 

• Requires unexpected balances in the fund to be redirected accordingly (Sec. 14): 

• 15% to municipalities where marijuana retailers and businesses are located, allocated based on proportion;

• 15% to counties where marijuana retailers and businesses are located, allocated based on proportion;

• 35% to the school aid fund to be used for K-12 education; and

• 35% to the Michigan transportation fund to be used to repair and maintain roads and bridges.
