Vote to concur with senate amendments and pass a bill that establishes the purple star award for students.

Highlights:

• Establishes the purple star designation to signify excellence in social-emotional supports for students of military service members who have recently transitioned to a new school (Sec. 1).

• Specifies the requirements for how to qualify for the award the school district must provide the following services for specified students (Sec. 1):

• There must be a staff point of contact who is in liaison with families and students and can provide professional development training for staff regarding special considerations; 

• The school maintains accurate resources on the school website for these students and their families; 

• A passage of a resolution signifying support for military families; 

• A military families recognition event. 

• Establishes the application process for the award (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that if it is not funded in the omnibus appropriations act then the act is null and void (Sec. 1).
