Vote to pass a bill to require the board of higher education to establish a hunger-free campus grant program in Illinois
Establishes the hunger-free campus grant program (Sec. 10)
Specifies the objectives of the hunger-free grant program as to help provide academic institutions with grants to ensure adequate nutrition and access to basic foodstuffs (Sec. 10).
Specifies that the grant funding shall be used for the purposes of the following (Sec. 10):
Addressing student hunger;
Leveraging currently existing programs to best ensure basic food security;
Raising awareness of existing programs;
Building specific partnerships at the state and local levels.
Specifies what needs to be done for an academic institution to be considered a hunger free campus including instituting programs for SNAP (Sec. 10).
Specifies that the board shall provide funding based on need as well as campuses that serve primarily minority and low-income students and have a high percentage of Pell Grant recipients (Sec. 10).
Requires the board to submit a report to the governor (Sec. 10).
Establish the hunger free campus grant program fund under the state treasury (Sec. 10).
