Vote to pass a bill that authorizes the Illinois Housing Authority to develop a program that incentivizes urban and suburban garden and agriculture incorporation into affordable housing projects.
Authorizes the Illinois Housing Authority to develop an incentive based program for the development of housing projects with the incorporation of urban and suburban gardening (Sec. 7).
Requires the Authority to consult the University of Illinois on best urban gardening practices such as vertical gardening, aquaponics, and community gardening (Sec. 7).
Requires an urban garden incorporated housing project to provide land, buildings, and tools necessary to develop and maintain a garden or farm (Sec. 7).
Requires the Authority and the Department of Commerce to collaborate and create distribution networks between urban gardens and local businesses to facilitate the sale and distribution of locally-grown agriculture (Sec. 7).
