Vote to concur with senate amendments and pass a bill that establishes the Colorado commodity supplemental food grant program.

Highlights:

• Defines “eligible entity”, “food bank”, “Grant Program”,and  “qualifying low-income Colorado Adult” (Sec. 2). 

• Establishes the Colorado Commodity Supplemental Food Grant Program (Sec. 2). 

• Specifies that the state department shall administer the grant program (Sec. 2).  

• Specifies that the state department board that runs the program shall be responsible for setting the following rules and requirements for the program (Sec. 2): 

• Timelines for applications for awarding grants;

• Criteria for rewarding grants; 

• Any other matters that are deemed necessary for success of the program. 

• Appropriates $1 million dollars for the purpose of maintaining the grant program (Sec. 2). 

• Defines “food bank”, “food pantry”, and “grant program” (Sec. 2).

• Establishes the food bank grant assistance program (Sec. 2).

• Specifies that this grant program shall be tasked with providing grants of money to food banks to enhance their capacity to distribute quality and nutritious food as determined by the goals of the program (Sec. 3). 

• Specifies that this money shall be used for the purpose of doing the following (Sec. 3): 

• Increase the volume of food that is to be distributed;

• Expand capacity to deliver;

• Specifies that the state department will monitor to the program to ensure it is operating in peak condition (Sec. 3).
