Title: Require Schools and Child Care Centers Develop a Drinking Water Management Plan

Vote to pass a bill that requires schools and child care centers develop a drinking water management plan.

Highlights:

  • Requires 15 months after the effective date of this bill each child care center develop a drinking water management plan and make the plan available to the department of licensing and regulatory affairs, child care center staff, and parents and guardians of children enrolled in the child care center upon request (Sec. 3i).

  • Requires the drinking water management plan to specify the following information, including (Sec. 3i):

    • Locations where water outlets will be maintained to deliver water for human consumption;

    • Locations where filtered bottle-filling stations, faucets, and pitchers will be located and maintained;

    • Locations where unfiltered drinking fountains, faucets, or pitchers will be maintained;

    • Locations where water outlets from a water delivery service will be maintained;

    • Locations where water shutoff will be maintained; and

    • Regular replacement requirements for drinking water cartridges for each filtered filtered filling, faucet, pitcher in compliance with manufacturer instructions or recommendations of the department of environment, great lakes, and energy.

  • Requires each child care center to review and update the drinking water management plan created under this bill every 5 years and collect the water for water sampling and testing (Sec. 3i).

  • Specifies that the provisiosn of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the governor (Sec. 3i).
