Vote to pass a bill that authorizes the Department of Energy and Environmental Protections to amend environmental justice permit processes.

Highlights:

• Authorizes the State Department of Energy and Environmental Protections or Connecticut Sitting Council to amend environmental justice permit processes in the state (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes the State Department of Energy and Environmental Protections or Connecticut Sitting Council to deny or impsoe specific conditions on permits for construction and operation of proposed affected facilities based on cumulative environmental or public health stressors (Sec. 1).

• Defines “affected facilities” to include the following, including (Sec. 1):

• Certain large-scale electronic generating facilities;

• Sludge, solid, medical waste incinerators;

• Large-scale sewage treatment plants, recycling plants, and 

• Major sources of air pollution.

• Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the governor (Sec. 1).
