Title: Prohibits Discrimination Against Elected Officials in Insurance

  • Prohibits a person responsible for transacting insurance from solely because of a person's status as an elected official from doing the following (Sec. 1): 

    • Refusing to issue or renew insurance coverage; 

    • Limiting the scope of insurance coverage;

    • Deny a covered claim; 

    • Increase the premium, the policy flees, or any sort of cost of rate charged on an insurance policy. 

  • Specifies that this does not apply to decisions based on sound underwriting or are authorized by law or regulations (Sec. 1). 

  • Defines elected officials (Sec. 1). 

  • Specifies that this act applies to all insurance policies and contracts issued or activated after the effective date of this act (Sec. 2).
