Title: Appropriates Resources for Charter Schools

Vote to override a governors veto and pass a bill that appropriates resources for state charter schools.

Highlights:

  • Expands admission preferences to include certain pre-k program graduates and students whose parent is on active military duty (Sec. 4).

  • Requires that capital-sourced assets be deemed the property of the counties providing the funding and be divided between the countries in proportion to the fund provided (Sec. 6.a).

  • Authorizes county to provide funds to charter schools by direct appropriation for the following purposes (Sec. 6.b):

  • The acquisitions of real property for school purposes;

  • The acquisition or construction of buildings and other structures;

  • The acquisition or replacement of furniture, technology, and similar items.

  • Requires that if a charter school uses funds provided to acquire or improve property, the amount provided be evidenced and secured by a deed of trust on the property (Sec. 6.b).

  • Authorizes counties to appropriate funds and lease real property to charter schools (Sec. 6.d).
