Vote to pass a bill that authorizes undocumented immigrants to obtain a standardized Illinois driver's license.

Highlights:

• Amends previous law to authorize undocumented immigrants including assylum seekers and those who have entered with approved refugee status to obtain a “Limited Term REAL ID compliant identification card” as a form of a drivers license (Sec. 10).

• Specifies that the aforementioned “Limited Term REAL ID compliant identification card” drivers license shall not list a social security number for the applicant (Sec. 10).

• Requires state and local government authorities accept a consular identification document or passport from an applicant's country of citizenship as a valid form of identification but exempts this process from being used to obtain a REAL ID or to register to vote (Sec. 10).

• Specifies that if an application for a state identification card meets the requirements of the Federal REAL ID Act of 2005 then that application may serve as an application to register to vote as well (Sec. 10).

• Establishes that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the governor (Sec. 10).
