Title: Authorizes Undocumented Immigrants to Obtain a Standardized Illinois Driver's License
Vote to pass a bill that authorizes undocumented immigrants to obtain a standardized Illinois driver's license.
Amends previous law to authorize undocumented immigrants including assylum seekers and those who have entered with approved refugee status to obtain a “Limited Term REAL ID compliant identification card” as a form of a drivers license (Sec. 10).
Specifies that the aforementioned “Limited Term REAL ID compliant identification card” drivers license shall not list a social security number for the applicant (Sec. 10).
Requires state and local government authorities accept a consular identification document or passport from an applicant's country of citizenship as a valid form of identification but exempts this process from being used to obtain a REAL ID or to register to vote (Sec. 10).
Specifies that if an application for a state identification card meets the requirements of the Federal REAL ID Act of 2005 then that application may serve as an application to register to vote as well (Sec. 10).
Establishes that the provisions of this bill shall take effect immediately upon passage and approval by the governor (Sec. 10).
