Title: Authorizes K-12 Schools to Establish Policies on When Disruptive Students can be Removed
Vote to concur with senate amendments and pass a bill that authorizes K-12 school leaders to craft policies on when disruptive students can be removed from classrooms.
Authorizes K-12 school leaders to create policies on when disruptive students can be removed from classrooms (Sec. 1).
Authorizes principals to move disruptive students to different classrooms or in certain cases, an alternative school (Sec. 1).
Requires students to be expelled for at least 12 months if they are determined to pose a danger to the well-being of anyone in the district.
Specifies that expulsion can be for a longer period than 12 months if deemed necessary (Sec. 1).
Defines a student as “chronically disruptive if they are removed from the same classroom three times within a thirty day period (Sec. 1).
Requires specific procedures to be followed in order to suspend students (Sec. 1):
Student must receive written or oral notice of the charges;
Student must be given an explanation and evidence of charges; and
Student must be given the opportunity to present their version of the case.
