Vote to concur with house amendments and pass a bill that amends the state board of education.
Requires that when the board makes a request of a local education agency (LEA), they include (Sec. 1):
Justification for the requested information;
A statement confirming that the information is not available elsewhere;
A deadline for when the LEA needs to provide the information in accordance with state board rule;
Penalties for non-compliance in accordance with state and federal law.
Requires that the board requires all LEAs to issue a high school diploma to students who (Sec. 2):
Receives an associate’s degree with a minimum of 60 credit hours form an accredited post-secondary institution;
Receives an industry certificate with a minimum of 500 hours of instruction from a business, trade association, or industry group.
Requires that the state board exempt the school accountability system if the United States Department of Education approves the state’s application for a waiver of federal accountability requirements, a school with an opt out rate on a statewide assessment for accountability exceeding 50% (Sec. 3).
