Title: Prohibits Discrimination Based on Ancestry

Highlights:

  • Prohibits discrimination based on ancestry and amends the definition of “ancestry” to include, among other things, the following (Sec. 2):

    • Lineal descent;

    • Heritage;

    • Parentage;

    • Caste; or

    • Inherited social status.

  • Defines “caste” as an individual’s perceived position in a system of social stratification on the basis of inherited status, and characterized by the following factors, including, but not limited to (Sec. 2):

    • Inability or restricted ability to alter inherited status;

    • Socially enforced restriction on marriage;

    • Private or public segregation and discrimination; and

    • Social excludsion on the basis of perceived status.

  • Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall become effective upon passage and approval by the governor (Sec. 5).
