Title: Requires Periodic Reporting of Election Results

Vote to pass a bill that requires periodic reporting of election results on the night of primaries and general elections until final tally is announced.

Highlights:

  • Requires that on the day of each primary and general election the district boards of election at each polling place create and publicly display a notice containing an unofficial count of the cumulative number of voters who have voted at each election district and the number of voters who have voted at the election district using a voting machine or voting equipment, with the final unofficial count to be posted after closing the polls (Sec. 1).

  • Requires that each county clerk, in consultation with the county board of elections, send to the Secretary of State the reports created and posted at the time of each posting (Sec. 1).

  • Requires that the Secretary of State provides an easily accessible location on the website of the Division of Elections for the county by county and Statewide totals for each category included in the reports, including a date and time stamp of the posting (Sec. 1).

  • Requires that each county clerk and the Division of Elections note on their websites that the reports and postings are unofficial and subject to change as each clerk and board of elections receives and processes ballots that have been cast (Sec. 1).

  • Requires that the Secretary of State, in consultation with the county clerks and board of elections, share uniform guidelines for the county clerks to follow in creating the reports and postings (Sec. 1).

  • Requires that if the reporting required in this subsection would cause a voter’s privacy to be violated, the election results be reported in a manner that maintains privacy of the vote (Sec. 1).
