Title: Authorizes School Employees to Concealed Carry
Vote to adopt a conference report and pass a bill that authorizes school employees to carry concealed weapons on campus if they have a concealed-carry license, complete firearms training from a law enforcement agency and are trained in CPR and first aid.
Authorizes school employees to carry concealed weapons on campus if they meet all of the following, including (Sec. 1):
Have a concealed-carry license;
Complete firearms training from a law enforcement agency; and
Are trained in CPR and first aid.
Requires that the aforementioned firearm training, at minimum, include the following (Sec. 1):
An instructional course developed by the Department of Public Safety;
A criminal background check;
A psychological screening;
A shooting proficiency test; and
An annual recertification training.
Requires the commissioner, in consultation with the Mississippi Association of Chiefs of Police and the Mississippi Sheriffs' Association, be responsible for establishing guidelines for active shooter response situations (Sec. 2).
Specifies that the provisions of this bill shall take effect July 1, 2023 (Sec. 5).
