Title: Authorizes K-12 Schools to Hire more Retired Teachers for Longer Contracts
Vote to concur with house amendments and pass a bill that authorizes K-12 schools to hire more retired teachers for longer contracts.
Extends the time limit for retired teacher contracts from 2 to 4 years, including in the Kansas City Public School District (Sec. A).
Authorizes each school district to hire up to 5 retired teachers or the equivalent of one percent of their total staff, including those who are not certified, whichever number is greater (Sec. A).
Increases the number of retired teachers who can return at one time from 15 to 30 (Sec. A).
Authorizes teachers who opted to receive reduced payments and named a same-sex domestic partner as their beneficiary to receive regular payment amount if the relationship has ended and they would like to remove the beneficiary (Sec. A).
Specifies that this bill shall become effective upon passage and approval by the governor (Sec. A).
