Title: Authorizes Incarcerated Individuals to Vote

Vote to pass a bill that authorizes incarcerated individuals the eligibility to vote.

Highlights:

  • Authorizes incarcerated individuals the eligibility to register and vote in upcoming primary and election (Sec. 5).

  • Requires each county or city jail to provide the following, including (Sec. 7):

    • Reasonable amount of privacy to vote;

    • A pen to vote on their mail ballot;

    • An established collection process of mail in ballots administered by the county clerk; and

    • The ability to cure any ballot defects in a mail in ballot under certain circumstances.

  • Requires individuals who administer a county or city jail to report to the Secretary of State no later than 30 days after each primary or general election on their incarcerated voting rates (Sec. 8).

  • Prohibits electioneering near the area of a county or city jail where a detained individual may vote (Sec. 16).
