Title: Establishes New Procedures for Automatic Recounts

Vote to pass a bill that establishes new state procedures for automatic recounts.

Highlights:

  • Specifies that the act only applies to the following situations (Sec. 1). 

    • A race in which one candidate is beaten by by one-half of one percent or less of the votes cast for that office;

    • A tie vote;

    • A ballot measure that is approved or defeated by one-half of one percent or less of the votes cast on that measure.

  • Establishes a procedure for automatic recounts that involves generally accepted sampling techniques to survey the following (Sec. 2). 

    • 100% of electronic ballots; 

    • 5% of early voting ballots voted by mail; 

    • 5% of the ballots from polling place locations established for early voting;

    • 5% of the ballots from placed designated as polling locations for election day.

  •  Specifies that the secretary of state must adopt rules and procedures for the implementation of this section (Sec. 2). 

  • Specifies that this goes into effect on September 1st 2023 (Sec. 3).
