Title: Amends and Updates Various State Election Policies

Vote to pass a bill that amends and updates various state election policies.

Highlights:

  • Requires the The County Director or Deputy County Director of each county office to properly provide the following materials for the carrying out of election related purposes (Sec. 1):

    • A map of the district;

    • A sufficient number of ballots 

    • Other needed supplies 

  • Requires the commissioner to provide a report 30 days after an election about the number of ballots furnished, the the amount of ballots used, and remaining amount of blank ballots (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that the department may open paper ballots 30 days before the day of election for the purpose of making sure they are from counted in the right districts in an efficient manner with challengers from both parties present (Sec. 1). 

  • Requires the department to appoint a panel of election judges to help carry this out (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that ballots that are not challenged will be separated from the ballot envelopes and the ballot envelopes shall be separately stored in a secure location (Sec. 1). 

  • Requires the duplication of non-legible ballots so that they may be counted (Sec. 1). 

  • Requires that counted ballots be placed in a separate carrier envelope and each member of the team shall sign it signifying that the ballot was counted for the right district and sent to a secure location (Sec. 1). 

  • Uncounted ballots shall be stored in a locked cabinet in a secure location (Sec.1). 

Prohibits the results of absentee ballots be reported before the day of election (Sec. 1).
