Title: Prohibits Foreign Governments from Buying Agricultural Land in North Dakota
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits foreign governments from buying agricultural land in North Dakota.
Prohibits foreign governments (Canada exempt) or state-controlled enterprises interest in agricultural land in North Dakota (Sec. 1).
Defines “foreign governments interest in agricultural land” includes the purchase, acquisition, or possession of any absolute or qualified ownership of land by a foreign government, but does not include leasehold interest (Sec. 1).
Defines “state-controlled enterprise” means a business enterprise, however denominated, in which a foreign government has a controlling interest (Sec. 1).
Specifies that this bill shall take effect June 30, 2023 but exempts any agricultural land held by a foreign governent before July 1, 2023 (Sec. 2).
