Title: Prohibits Certain Topics from Being Taught in Public School

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits certain topics from being taught in public school.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits public school units from promoting the following ideas (Sec. 1): 

    • One race or sex is inherently better than another race or sex; 

    • Somebody is inherently sexist, racist, or oppressive based only upon their race or sex; 

    • Somebody should receive adverse treatment based parently or solely upon their race or sex; 

    • Somebody’s race or sex determines their moral character;

    • Somebody is responsible for historic actions done by the people of the same race or sex; 

    • Somebody should feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress because of their race or sex; 

    • A meritocracy is inherently racist or sexist; 

    • The United States was created by members of a certain race or sex specifically to oppress members of another race or sex; 

    • The United States government should be violently overthrown; 

    • Specific character traits, values, moral or ethical codes, privileges, or beliefs should be ascribed to an individual because of their race or sex or associated with a specific racial group or gender; 

    • The rule of law does not exist, but instead a series of power dynamics between racial or other groups; 

    • All Americans are not created equal and are not endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; and

    • The government should deny anybody within the government's jurisdiction  the equal protection of the law.

  • Requires public school units to notify Department of Public Instruction and make general information available on their website and more detailed information available upon request within 30 days prior to doing any of the following (Sec. 1):

    • Providing instruction on the above list of concepts in books, curriculum, training, or other forms; 

    • Contracting with, hiring, or otherwise engaging with somebody who will come and speak about the above topics; or 

    • Contracting with, hiring, or otherwise engaging with somebody who has previously advocated for the above concepts in their published works or on a publicly available social media post in the last three years.
