Title: Requires Schools Teach Native American History in Any Social Studies Course Related to American History
Vote to pass a bill requires schools to teach Native American history in every social studies course related to American history.
Requires any state public k-12 school to teach Native American history in every social studies course related to American history beginning in the 2024-2025 school year (Sec. 5).
Specifies that the aforementioned Native American history shall include (Sec. 5):
Contributions of native americans in government, arts, humanities, and sciences;
Contributions of native americans to the economic, cultural, social, and political development of their own nations in the United States;
Starting in grade 6 instruction on the study of genocide and discrimination against native americans, their tribal sovereignty, self determination, treaties made related to forced relocation policies.
Requires all educational information related to native american history be made available by every school board on each public school district website no later than January 1, 2025 (Sec. 5).
Specifies that this bill shall take effect upon passage and approval by the governor (Sec. 5).
