Title: Prohibits Minors from Updating the Gender on Their Own Birth Certificate

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits minors from updating the gender on their own birth certificate.

Highlights:

  • Requires there be a space to list the biological sex on birth certificates (Sec. 1).  

  • Requires whoever is filling out the birth certificate list the biological sex of the child (Sec. 1).  

  • Specifies that the child's biological sex does not need to be filled out right away if they have atypical or ambiguous sex organs, chromosomes, or endogenous profile (Sec. 1). 

  • Authorizes the amending of the birth certificate for any child born with atypical or ambiguous sex organs, chromosomes, or endogenous profile once by including the child's determined sex (Sec. 1). 

  • Prohibits the state registrar, local registrar, or other person who issues a birth certificate from a issuing an amended birth certificate that incorporates the completed or corrected biological sex information for a minor unless (Sec. 3): 

    • The correction fixes a clerical error; and

    • The birth certificate does not meet the requirements of listing the biological sex.
