Vote Smart's Synopsis:

Vote to pass a bill that requires transgender student athletes play against those of their biological sex.

Highlights:

• Prohibits intercollegiate athletic teams sponsored or authorized by an institution of higher education from allowing athletes to compete on a team that is designed for the opposite biological sex (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that the college must use the students official birth certificate to determine their biological sex (Sec. 1). 

• Requires that this birth certificate be entered at or near the time for the athlete's birth to and corrected of any mistakes to be considered valid (Sec. 1). 

• Specifies that if the athlete's birth certificate is not suitable another government document that states the student's biological sex is usable (Sec. 1). 

• Authorizes participation by a female athlete in an intercollegiate athletic competition that is designated for male students if a female alternative is not available (Sec. 1).

• Prohibits a college or college sports team from retaliating against a person for reporting a violation of this act (Sec. 1). 

• Authorizes bringing a civil action against a college or college sports team that is in violation of this act (Sec.1). 

• Requires The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to adopt rules in accordance with this section (Sec. 1).
