Title: Increases Restrictions on Voter Registration

Highlights:

 

  • Prohibits an agency of the state or political subdivision from providing an individual with an absentee ballot application unless requested by the individual or a member of their family (Sec. 1).

  • Requires an individual seeking an absentee ballot for themselves or a family member provide the following information for successful completion of an absentee ballot application, including  (Sec. 1):

    • The voter’s 10 digit Indiana driver license number;

    • The voter’s 10 digit identification number if they are a nondriver;

    • The last 4 digits of the voter’s Social Security number; and

    • A photocopy of the aforementioned information.

  • Authorizes the bureau of motor vehicles to provide the secretary of state with a list of driver license numbers and identification numbers for the purpose of verifying voter registration numbers and cross reference in the statewide voter registration system (Sec. 2).

  • Requires circuit county clerks to notify individuals at least 12 days before election day if their absentee ballot application was not fully complete or in compliance with all the aforementioned requirements (Sec. 7).
