Title: Establishes a Parents Bill of Right's for Students in Grades K-4
Vote to override a governors veto and pass a bill that establishes a parental bill of rights for students in grades K-4.
Establishes a parental bill of rights for students in grades K-4 that requires schools alert parents before using a different name or pronoun for a student and prohibits discussion on gender identity and sexuality (Sec. 1).
Specifies that parents have the following legal rights to their child’s education, including, but not limited to the following rights (Sec. 2):
To consent or withhold consent for participation in reproductive health and safety education programs;
To seek a medical or religious exemption from immunization requirements;
To review statewide standardized assessment results as part of the state report card;
To request an evaluation of their child for academically or intellectually gifted program, or for identification as a child with a disability; and
To inspect and purchase public school unit textbooks and other supplementally instructional materials.
Requires schools make the list of aforementioned rights available to parents electronically on their public school website (Sec. 2).
Establishes that this bill will take effect July 1, 2023 (Sec. 4).
