Vote to pass a bill that requires insurance coverage for mental health conditions and substance abuse.

Highlights:

• Establishes that every hospital or health service corporation that provides hospital or medical expense benefits in this state shall provide coverage for mental health conditions and substance use disorders under the same terms and conditions as provided for any other sickness (Sec. 1-3).

• Establishes that every individual health insurer, group health insurer, individual health benefits plan, or small employer that provides hospital or medical expense benefits shall provide coverage for mental health conditions and substance use disorders under the same terms and conditions as provided for any other sickness (Sec. 4-7).

• Establishes that the State Health Benefits Commission shall ensure that every contract purchased by the commission on or after the effective date of this act that provides hospital or medical expense benefits shall provide coverage for mental health conditions and substance use disorders under the same terms and conditions as provided for any other sickness (Sec. 8).
