Vote to pass a bill that establishes new additions to election laws and polling places.

Highlights:

• Establishes that cities shall be responsible for providing suitable polling places for each precinct. Unless otherwise provided in this bill, school buildings, fire stations, police stations, and other publicly owned or controlled buildings must be used as polling places (Sec. 662).

• Specifies that if no public building can be used, cities may use buildings owned or controlled by an organization that is exempt from federal income tax as a polling place (Sec. 662).

• Specifies that cities may establish polling places at facilities that house more than 150 residents (Sec. 662).

• Specifies that if none of the options listed above are available, cities may establish polling places at any privately owned banquet or conference centers or recreation clubhouses (Sec. 662).

• Establishes that cities may establish central polling places for 6 precincts or less if it is possible and convenient for the electors to vote at the central polling place (Sec. 662).

• Specifies that cities shall not use a building as a polling place that does not meet the requirements of this section (Sec. 662).

• Specifies that cities shall not establish, move, or abolish polling places less than 60 days before an election unless necessary due to damage or inaccessibility of the polling place (Sec. 662).

• Establishes that cities shall ensure that a polling place is accessible in compliance with the Voting Accessibility for the Elderly and Handicapped Act and the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (Sec. 662).
