Vote to amend and pass a bill that establishes protection for survivors of sexual assault

Highlights:

• Requires hospitals and approved federally qualified health centers to have sexual assault plans such as forensic and transfer services (Sec. 5).

• Requires emergency department attending physicians, physician assistants, advanced practice registered nurses, and registered professional nurses providing clinical services to receive a minimum of 2 hours of continuing education every 2 years on responding to sexual assault survivors (Sec. 5).

• Specifies that a pediatric health care facility must participate in or submit an areawide treatment plan that includes a treatment hospital (Sec. 5).

• Appropriates oral and written information concerning evidence-based guidelines for the appropriateness of evidence collection depending on the sexual development of the sexual assault survivor, the type of sexual assault, and the timing of the sexual assault shall be provided to the sexual assault survivor (Sec. 5)

• Prohibits the billing of sexual assault survivors directly for certain services (Sec. 7).

• Specifies that a sexual assault survivor who is not the subscriber or primary policyholder of their insurance policy may opt out of billing the their private insurance provider (Sec. 7).

• Establishes the Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Services Implementation Task Force (Sec. 9).
