Title: Mental Health Justice Act of 2022
Vote to pass a bill that establishes a grant program for states, tribal entities, and local governments to train and dispatch mental health professionals to respond, instead of local law enforcement officers, to emergencies that involve individuals with behavioral health needs.
Establishes a grant program for states, tribal entities, and local governments to train and dispatch mental health professionals to respond, instead of local law enforcement officers, to emergencies that involve individuals with behavioral health needs (Sec. 2).
Requires the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Adminstration (SAMHSA) manage the aforementioned program in consultation with the Department of Justice (DOJ), and authorizes SAMHSA to cancel grants that increase incarceration or institutionaliztion (Sec. 2-3).
Requires the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and DOJ to evaluate this program (Sec. 3).
