Highlights:

 

  • Establishes a Pilot Work Initiative at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility for inmates who (Sec. 2):

    • Have 2 years or less remaining on their sentence;

    • Have not been convicted within the last 5 years; and

    • Have not been convicted of a sex offense.

  • Requires that participating inmates are paid the same wages as non-incarcerated employees (Sec. 2).

  • Specifies that inmates straying from typical routes, vehicles, and locations will be charged with escape (Sec. 2).

  • Requires participating inmates to allocate their wages as follows (Sec. 2):

    • 25% for the Corrections Department and any outstanding fees or fines;

    • 10% for administrative expenses associated with the work initiative;

    • 50% for savings that will be disbursed to the inmate upon release; and

    • 15% for incidental expenses.
