Title: Establishes Pilot Work Initiative for Prisoners
Vote to adopt a conference report that establishes a pilot work initiative for prisoners.
Establishes a Pilot Work Initiative at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility for inmates who (Sec. 2):
Have 2 years or less remaining on their sentence;
Have not been convicted within the last 5 years; and
Have not been convicted of a sex offense.
Requires that participating inmates are paid the same wages as non-incarcerated employees (Sec. 2).
Specifies that inmates straying from typical routes, vehicles, and locations will be charged with escape (Sec. 2).
Requires participating inmates to allocate their wages as follows (Sec. 2):
25% for the Corrections Department and any outstanding fees or fines;
10% for administrative expenses associated with the work initiative;
50% for savings that will be disbursed to the inmate upon release; and
15% for incidental expenses.
