Vote to pass a bill that authorizes the children of military members to enroll in public school virtually prior to State residency.

Highlights:

 

  • Authorizes a student who is not an Alabama resident to enroll in State K-12 public schools virtually prior to residency, if the following apply (Sec. 1, Pg. 2):

    • If a parent or legal guardian is on active military duty, is transfered, or is pending transfer to a military installation or reservation in the State;

    • If the parent or legal guardian provides the official military order upon request by the local board of education; and

    • If the parent or guardian submits the required forms and documents to the board, with the exception of proof of residency.

  • Requires the local board of education to make the enrollment registration form available and all the same course application opportunities for the above qualifying students (Sec. 1, Pg. 3).

  • Specifies that this act takes effect upon the 1st day of the 3rd month after passage and approval (Sec. 2, Pg. 3).
