Title: Increases Minimum Pay for Public Education Employees
Vote to pass a bill that increases minimum pay for public education employees.
Requires the State Budget Officer to allocate to the appropriate boards and department funds for the purposes of disbursing to public school employees (Sec. 1, Pgs. 2 & 3).
Requires each certified K-12 public school employee at every city and county public school system and teachers at the Department of Youth Services School District to receive a 4% salary increase beginning with the fiscal year starting October 1, 2022, and each fiscal year thereafter (Sec. 1, Pg. 3).
Requires all certified employees, including the Adult Education and Science in Motion employees, to be guaranteed the 4% pay increase (Sec. 1, Pg. 4).
Increases the salaries of public education support workers and bus drivers by 4% (Sec. 1, Pg. 5).
Specifies that the pay increase applies to employees of the Alabama institute of the Deaf and Blind (Sec. 1, Pg. 6).
Establishes the revised salary schedules to include the 4% salary increase for all certified employees of public schools, 2-year post-secondary schools, and all other above listed employees (Sec. 1).
Specifies that public K-12 school employees shall receive a pro-rata salary increase for any time spent working in excess of the standard 187 days or the hourly equivalent (Sec. 1, Pg. 8).
Requires cost-of-living adjustments to the salaries of teachers to be exclusive of the salary increases specified in this act (Sec. 1, Pg. 8).
Authorizes local boards of education to exclude part-time employees of community education or school-sponsored child care or child enrichment programs from the salary increase of this act (Sec. 1, Pg. 9).
Specifies that the pay increase described in this act does not apply to school system superintendents (Sec. 1, Pg. 9).
Specifies that this act takes effect immediately upon passage and approval (Sec. 4, Pg. 10).
