  • Establishes criminal penalties for making a false school shooting tip (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the School Public Safety Commission to (Sec. 2):

    • Monitor the activities and enforcement efforts of the Office of Safe Schools;

    • Review the Auditor General’s findings regarding school safety policies and identify areas of improvement;

    • Evaluate the effects of grants designated for school safety;

    • Evaluate the effectiveness of the database schools currently use to monitor threat tips; and

    • Assess the efforts of local governments to improve emergency communication coordination.

  • Repeals School Public Safety Requirements to (Sec. 2):

    • Make unique safety recommendations to each school based on location and demographics;

    • Investigate the criminal history of threat perpetrators; and

    • Evaluate whether schools are in compliance with national best safety practices.

  • Requires the Office of School Safety to develop a model family reunification plan for use in disasters, and all school districts to implement such a plan (Secs. 4 & 5).

  • Requires law enforcement officers to be physically present during emergency drills (Sec. 5).

  • Requires the state Board of Education to establish emergency drill procedures by incident type (Sec. 5).

  • Requires school districts to adopt suicide screening policy (Sec. 5).

  • Requires all school safety officers who are certified as law enforcement officers to receive mental health crisis training (Sec. 6).
