  • Authorizes a person to petition for compensation for wrongful conviction if (Sec. 1):

    • They were imprisoned as a result of their conviction;

    • The charges were dismissed or the person received a gubernatorial pardon; and

    • They did not commit the crime with which they were charged.

  • Requires petitioners found to be wrongfully convicted to be awarded (Sec. 1):

    • $65,000 per year of imprisonment;

    • $25,000 per year served on parole; and

    • The value of all legal fees the petitioner paid for both the petition and the original litigation.

  • Requires a wrongful conviction petition to be filed within 2 years of the dismissal of the charges in order to be valid (Sec. 1).

  • Requires a notice of petition to be filed within 180 days of the dismissal of the charges in order for the subsequent petition to be valid (Sec. 2).
