Vote to pass a bill that limits the use of monetary bail.

Highlights:

• Requires that any individual arrested, charged, or held for a traffic offense, violation, nonviolent petty misdemeanor offense, or nonviolent misdemeanor offense be released on their own recognizance at arraignment and plea (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that individuals who have been arrested for violent offenses, have a history of non-appearance in the previous 2 year period, have prior convictions pending trial, or are on current probation shall not be eligible for immediate release upon arraignment and plea (Sec. 1).

• Specifies that if a bail must be set for release it be based on the individual's financial ability to afford the amount, and if the individual is unable to pay then a prompt hearing shall be required to be set (Sec. 1).
