Title: Limits Use of Monetary Bail
Vote to pass a bill that limits the use of monetary bail.
Requires that any individual arrested, charged, or held for a traffic offense, violation, nonviolent petty misdemeanor offense, or nonviolent misdemeanor offense be released on their own recognizance at arraignment and plea (Sec. 1).
Specifies that individuals who have been arrested for violent offenses, have a history of non-appearance in the previous 2 year period, have prior convictions pending trial, or are on current probation shall not be eligible for immediate release upon arraignment and plea (Sec. 1).
Specifies that if a bail must be set for release it be based on the individual's financial ability to afford the amount, and if the individual is unable to pay then a prompt hearing shall be required to be set (Sec. 1).
