Title: Repeals License Requirement to Carry a Handgun
A vote to pass a bill that repeals the requirement to obtain a license to carry a handgun.
Repeals the requirement that an individual over the age of 18 and with no criminal record first obtain a license or permit to carry a handgun in the state of Indiana (Sec. 12).
Prohibits the following individuals from carrying a handgun, including (Sec. 9):
An individual convicted of a federal or state offense punishable by a 1 year prison term;
A fugitive from justice;
An alien;
An individual convicted of domestic violence, domestic battery, or criminal stalking;
An individual restrained by a protective order;
An individual under indictment;
An individual adjudicated dangerous, mental defective, or committed to a mental institution;
An individual dishonorably discharged from military service or the national guard;
An individual who renounces their United States citizenship; or
An individual who is less than 18 years old, or 23 years old and has a adjudication as a delinquent child.
Specifies that individuals found to of unlawfully carry a handgun shall be guilty of a Class A misdemeanor, and increases the offense to a Level 5 felony if the individual has a prior criminal offense or the offense is committed (Sec. 9):
On or in school property;
Within 500 feet of school property; or
On a school bus.
