Title: Requires Increased Transparency from Public Schools

Vote to pass a bill that requires increased transparency from public schools.

Highlights:

  • Requires that public schools, public charter schools, and school districts post their learning materials and curriculum on their publicly available website and make the materials and curriculum available if requested by a parent or legal guardian who is considering enrolling their child in the school or school district (Sec. 2).

  • Requires that the aforementioned school materials and curriculum on topics related to discrimination, diversity, equity, inclusion, race, ethnicity, sex, gender, or bias include the following rules and regulations, including (Sec. 3):

    • The procedures or processes in effect at a school for a parent to have access in advance to review current learning materials and curriculum;

    • The procedures or processes in effect at a school for a school principal or other staff to document, review, or approve lesson plans or the learning materials and curriculum used for student instruction; and

    • A listing of the learning materials and activities sued for student instruction at the school for the current year, including, but not limited to:

      • Textbooks, articles, and other required materials;

      • Videos and audio recordings;

      • Digital materials;

      • Instructional handouts and worksheets;

      • Online applications for a phone, laptop, or tablet;

      • Grade level or school wide assemblies;

      • Guest lecturers;

      • Action-oriented civics learning assignments or projects; or

      • Service learning projects.

  • Requires that the aforementioned information be posted to a publicly accessible website at least 72 hours before the learning activity is scheduled to take place (Sec. 3).
